What makes The Prodigal Son Initiative so special? It begins with Terrance’s vision for a community where children feel like they have choices to move in positive directions with their lives. Interviews with participants and their families indicate that Prodigal Son succeeds at changing the self-perceptions of children in the program, helping them see the exciting possibilities they have before them in life. These children report a more positive interest in their education and in their responsibility to their own community. They also report a desire to be more athletic and active.

Along with serving as Executive Director of the Prodigal Son Initiative, Terrance is an Education Liaison for the Denver Children’s Home. He handles cases and works with children and their families who have truancy issues at school. In addition to his work in the community, Terrance Roberts is a family man with two children. He has worked hard to become a homeowner. He is also a little league football and basketball coach for the Aurora Crush, the junior version of the national arena champion Colorado Crush.

Between his work with children through the Prodigal Son Initiative, coaching, and speaking at schools and neighborhood events, Terrance is helping reach out to and change the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of kids. Terrance has received inquiries not only from Denver and surrounding communities, but also from communities across the country who want to utilize the Prodigal Son Initiative model. His work is attracting media attention, which has meant even more communities are seeking his help to create positive alternatives for at-risk youth. Terrance and other community leaders do plan on making The Prodigal Son Initiative, Inc. a national prototype in the future.
